About the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival
The Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival is Europe’s premier festival event for choirs, bands, and orchestras. Ensembles from around the world come together to perform, connect, and create intercultural exchanges.
Competitive, Non-Competitive, and SCL Academy
Ensembles at the festival can choose between a competitive performance or a non-competitive celebration. In addition, participants can opt into the SCL Academy for workshops that encourage cultural interactions while fine-tuning skills.
All competitions and Academy classes are adjudicated /taught by top international professionals at the Vienna University of Music.
Students will also enjoy interactive workshops and educational lectures, additional concerts with local audiences, and pre-and post-concert tours of the area.
Application Requirements and Deadlines
Symphonic bands, choirs, orchestras, Summa ensembles, or music/dance ensembles of all sizes may apply. Applications must include the required materials (below) and registration fee payment.
Apply by February 15th Deadline of Festival Year
- Complete application form and music repertoire
- MP3 files or links to live or studio recordings with a minimum of 3 works (not older than 4 years)
- Short biography (in English) of the performing group and conductor (max. 1 page/word file)
- High-res color photos of performing group and conductor (Tiff, Bitmap, or Jpeg)
Groups will be notified of acceptance within 2 weeks (after receipt of all required materials.)
Apply by the Final April 15th Deadline of the Festival Year
In addition to the regular application process, groups must include
- One original conductor score of each competition work and one score of each workshop piece (Note: scores of the compulsory pieces are already available and do not have to be sent)
- Data sheet for individual participants
- Stage plan indicating locations for all instruments and group members

Mozarthaus Vienna (Mozart’s House)
Step into Mozarthaus and back to the days when Mozart made his home in this large and incredibly elegant apartment. From 1784 to 1787, Mozart and his family lived and worked in this space. In fact, it was while he resided here that he wrote the world-famous opera “Le Nozze di Figaro” and three of the six Haydn Quartets.
Schönbrunn Palace and Palace Park
The Schönbrunn Palace is a must-see for students! The château is a UNESCO World Heritage site and former summer residence for the Habsburgs, the imperial family that ruled Austria from the late 1200s until 1918.
The palace has 1,441 magnificent rooms, stunning gardens, and its own zoo! Students will love touring the house and grounds for a peek at the oh-so-glamorous life of the ruling class!
Watzmann Mountain and the Historic Town of Berchtesgaden
The highest peak in Germany against the spires and peaks of historic Berchtesgaden are truly something out of a fairy tale.
Take a Sound of Music tour, brush up on WWII history at the notorious Eagle’s Nest and Obersalzberg Documentation Center, or take time to stroll the picturesque streets of town. It’s a must-do for student groups.
Prater Amusement Park
The Prater Amusement Park is a great place for students to kick up their heels and have some fun! Games, rides, and attractions abound – and be sure to hop on the world-famous Ferris wheel for a bird’s eye view of the city.
Belvedere Palace
The Belvedere Palace is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. It’s home to 800 years of art history and gorgeous gardens that will leave you speechless. Definitely worth a stop!
